Burkini 'not compatible' with French values

French prime minister Manuel Valls said in an interview published on Wednesday (17 August) that burkinis are incompatible with the Republic's values. He ruled out national legislation against the full-body swimsuit but said he supported the mayors that had banned it from their cities' beaches. "I understand the mayors who, in that moment of tension, have the reflex to look for solutions, to avoid disturbing public order", the PM said.
