EU orders Apple to repay up to €13bn in taxes

The European Commission on Tuesday ordered Apple to repay up to €13 billion to Ireland. The EU executive ruled that tax arrangements between Irish authorities and the US tech firm that allowed it to pay less taxes amounted to illegal state aid. The Irish government earlier said it might appeal against any EU decision forcing Apple to pay.

Journalists on trial highlight Turkey crackdown

The trial, which opened Monday, of 17 journalists and administrative employees of the daily newspaper Cumhuriyet is considered one of the most important episodes in a systematic campaign to silence dissent.
