EU needs €700bn in digital investment, says commissioner

The EU needs between €600 and €700 billion in investment if it wants to be competitive with Asia and the US in the digital area, the EU commissioner in charge of the issue, Guenther Oettinger said Thursday. He told the Alpbach Forum in Austria that Europe "will lose" if it can’t develop fibre-optic networks and next-generation high-speed 5G wireless applications and networks fast enough, Reuters agency reported.
