EU could take more from member states' taxes

The EU could increase its budget by taking more from member states’ tax revenues to spend on specific policies such as security, an advisory group led by former Italian PM Mario Monti has suggested. "There are certainly ways to devise 'own resources' [EU revenues] linked to an objective, a priority … This would make the financing of the EU more understandable to our citizens," Monti told MEPs on Wednesday.
