Migrant arrival numbers in Italy same as last year

About 23,000 people, mainly from Libya, reached Italy in August after crossing the central Mediterranean. Some 117,900 have arrived in the first eight months of 2016. These figures are roughly similar to the same period last year, EU border agency Frontex said on Thursday. Nigeria continues to be the main country of origin for those arriving in Italy, followed by Eritrea and Bangladesh.
