Dutch PM: Failure of Ukraine treaty would be 'gift' to Putin

Dutch PM Mark Rutte warned that scrapping the Ukraine-EU association agreement would be the "biggest present that we can offer to [Russian president] Vladimir Putin". He said "we are not in a position now to bear big gifts for Putin, on the contrary, we [EU] must keep our unity". Following a referendum, the Netherlands wants guarantees that the deal does not mean a road to membership to ratify the agreeement.

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.
