Merkel in Egypt and Tunisia to curb migration

German chancellor Angela Merkel starts a two-day visit to Egypt and Tunisia on Thursday as part of efforts to limit migrant flows to Europe ahead of parliamentary elections in her country later this year. She will urge the two countries to step up border controls with Libya, fight people smuggling and co-operate better on accepting the return of failed asylum seekers in return for economic benefits.
