Defeated Fillon retires from French politics

Francois Fillon, who was eliminated from the French presidential election on Sunday, said on Monday that he would not seek a new seat in the lower chamber of the French parliament in the upcoming June elections. He said in a statement that he didn't have "the legitimacy to lead the fight" and that he would become a "simple militant at heart among others" in his centre-right Republicans party.
