Arctic Ocean could be ice-free in 20 years
By EUobserver
The Arctic Ocean could be largely ice-free in the summer as early as 2030, according to a report. Some 90 scientists contributed to the study commissioned by the Arctic Council, which groups the US, Russia, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The warmer climate is melting permafrost under buildings from Siberia to Alaska, raising world sea levels and disrupting temperature patterns further south.
