Commission gives Italy final warning on air pollution

The European Commission on Thursday gave Italy a final warning that it is breaking EU law by failing to significantly reduce the level of small particulate matter (PM10) in the air. If Italy ignores the warning, the commission can take it to court. The move follows a previous final warning about Italy's failure to reduce levels of nitrogen dioxide, a separate air pollutant also dangerous to human health.
