Germany tightens asylum laws

Germany's Bundestag passed tighter rules on asylum on Thursday. The new rules, criticised by rights groups, allow for deportation orders to be imposed on rejected asylum seekers without any assurances that the person concerned will be repatriated within three months. It will also permit the detention of individuals deemed to be a security threat for up to 10 days, and allows authorities to access asylum seekers' personal electronic devices.
