Noisy vacuum cleaners banned in EU

Vacuum cleaners that use more than 900 watts and make more than 90 decibels of noise are banned for sale in the EU from Friday onward. The law, long mocked by eurosceptics as a form of EU interference in people's daily lives, was needed because "power doesn't always equal performance, though the misconception has become widespread", the European Environment Bureau, a Brussels-based consultancy, said.
