Ireland wants written UK guarantees to avoid hard border

Ireland's prime minister Leo Varadkar said Friday he wants written guarantees from the UK before the end of the first phase of Brexit talks that there will be no hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. "We want that written down in practical terms in the conclusions of phase one," he said in Gothenburg, adding that "it doesn't seem like they [UK] have thought all this through".
