Commission relaxes rules on labelling free range eggs

European poultry farmers who are forced by government order to keep their free range chickens confined due to public health concerns, may continue to sell their eggs as 'free range' for 16 weeks after confinement, the European Commission announced on Wednesday. Previously the maximum was 12 weeks. In 2016, an avian flu outbreak lasted longer than that period, leading to complaints from poultry farmers.
