Malta lowers voting age to 16 years

The Maltese parliament agreed unanimously on Monday to lower the voting age to 16, making it the second EU country after Austria to do so. Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat said his country had "made history". They young Maltese will be able to exercise their right for the first time during the elections for the EU parliament in 2019.

The success of the new general data protection regulation (GDPR) will depend on whether data protection authorities enforce the new rules - which, in turn, will be at least partly determined by how many people they employ.

EU pessimistic on permanent US trade exemption

EU trade chief said the US will impose tariffs or "other limiting measures" on 1 June, as the EU's offer to start limited trade talks is probably not enough for the protectionist Trump presidency.
