UK seeks swift use of new EU chemical weapons blacklist
By EUobserver
The UK wants "early progress on listings to ensure the chemical weapons sanctions regime is used robustly", a British diplomat told EUobserver on Monday, referring to new EU sanctions against people guilty of chemical weapons violations. He declined to confirm or deny a press report it would seek EU visa bans and asset freezes on six Russian spy chiefs. EU states expect a detailed UK proposal later this week.
