UK will not name new commissioner before election

Britain will not name a new candidate for the EU Commission at least until a new government is formed after elections on 12 December, British officials said Thursday. The move is a snub to the EU, which hoped that the new commission can take office on 1 December. Under EU rules all member states need to nominate a commissioner. Britain is due to leave the EU on 31 January.

EU denies 'clandestine' mission on Venezuela election date

Following reports that accused EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell of sending diplomats to Venezuela in a "clandestine mission," the European People's Party was "alarmed" that such move would weaken the political position of the EU towards the Venezuelan regime.
