WHO report identifies gaps in nursing workforce
By EUobserver
A new report from the World Health Organization published on Tuesday reveals gaps in the nursing workforce and calls for increased investment in nursing education, jobs, and leadership. Although there are about 28 million nurses worldwide and 90 percent are female, it found only a few nurses are in senior health leadership positions. "Nurses are the backbone of any health system," said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom.
