ECB to do in-depth study of 'digital euro'

The European Central Bank (ECB) is pressing ahead with plans to launch a digital version of the euro, it said Wednesday, unveiling a new two-year "investigation period". The time will be used to create a design for the currency, see how it fits with EU laws, and examine data-privacy concerns arising from its use. The digital euro would not replace the physical one, but would be used alongside it.

EU Modernisation Fund: an open door for fossil gas in Romania

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.

Italian central banker Piero Cipollone in his first monetary policy speech since joining the ECB's board in November, said that the bank should be ready to "swiftly dial back our restrictive monetary policy stance."
