Spain classifies La Palma as 'disaster zone' due to volcano

Spain classified La Palma island as a disaster zone on Tuesday, pledging financial assistance for those affected by the volcanic eruption, Reuters reported. Lava has destroyed over 600 houses and crops over the last nine days. The government announced a package of €10.5m in financial aid, nearly half of which will be used to buying houses, and the rest for furniture and other essential household items.
