Lead MEPs call for predictive-policing ban

The lead MEPs in charge of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act are now calling for a ban on predictive policing systems — a key demand of civil society groups. Under the draft report, finalised on Monday, predictive policing has been added as a prohibited practice. The report will be discussed in the European Parliament's internal market and civil liberties committees on 11 May, with a vote expected in late October.

EU's proposed ethics body 'toothless', say campaigners

Transparency campaigners say the new ethics body proposed by the European Commission will do little to prevent corruption at the EU institutions. The proposal comes six months after allegations of a Qatari corruption affair involving a former European Parliament vice-president.
