EU explores Congo election mission

An EU fact-finding mission is departing for the Democratic Republic of Congo next week, to investigate the possibilities of an EU military mission to back up the UN during elections in the violence–stricken country this spring.

The mission is aimed at formulating the EU's response to a request made by the UN earlier this month to beef up its security presence during elections, which are likely to take place at the end of April.
