Last minute revolt against Giscard

Convention members on Wednesday afternoon, for the first time in their 16 month struggle to draft a new European Constitution, united against the proposals of their president, Válery Giscard d'Estaing.

At the request of Elmar Brok (German Christian Democrat MEP, Germany), the Convention split into subgroups, instead of discussing in plenary the details of the latest Presidium proposal on the future roles of the institutions running the European Union.
