Slovenia, the first of the eight ex-communist countries scheduled to join the EU in May 2004, holds its EU membership referendum on Sunday.
The poll will be taken in parallel with a referendum on joining NATO. A 'Yes' is expected in both polls.
The former Yugoslav republic was one of the accession front-runners among the ten candidate countries, with a GDP rate above Greece, and close to that of Portugal.
