Sharp rise in number of new EU workers to Ireland

The number of workers from new member states seeking work in Ireland has risen sharply since EU enlargement on 1 May.

Government figures released on Friday (6 August), and reported in Irish media, show almost 23,000 people from the new member states have sought employment in Ireland in the past three months.

This is around 10 times the number of work permits issued to people from the same countries in the first four months of the year, reports Ireland online.
