Macedonia should not be held hostage, Denmark says

European liberal leaders on Thursday (15 December) attacked plans to block Macedonia's EU candidate status if there is no budget deal, while showing optimism that a finance breakthrough is near.

"Each country should be judged on its own merits and not be taken hostage by the budgetary perspectives", Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.

His remark comes after France on Wednesday threatened to veto Macedonia's candidature if there is no clarity on how to pay for enlar...
