Dutch to restrict workers numbers from new states

The Netherlands has become the latest country in the EU to place restrictions on labour movement for workers from the new member states after enlargement on 1 May.

According ANP, the Dutch cabinet decided on Friday (23 January) that a maximum of 22,000 migrant workers from the ten acceding countries will be allowed to work in the Netherlands until May 2005.

If this ceiling is reached before that time, the government has indicated it will reconsider its policy.
