Commission president Romano Prodi has stated that he will stay on in Brussels until the end of his mandate but indicated that he will return to Italian politics after his term at the EU executive is over.
Speaking at the end of a two-day congress which launched the centre-left common list for the European Parliament elections, coined as the "Prodi List", he told an enthusiastic crowd "I will be with you from November. But already this is my home".
