Brussels is facing resistance to new alcohol policy

The European commission is facing growing opposition from beverage industries for its plans to crack down on alcohol consumption in Europe, mainly aimed at drivers and young people.

Brussels is set to produce a new "white book" on the EU's alcohol policy in early 2006, with a set of measures harmonising the rules on use, sales and advertising of alcohol across the continent.
