The European Parliament has rubber-stamped the nomination of the Jean-Claude Trichet as head of the European Central Bank (ECB).
With an overwhelming majority of votes, MEPs on Tuesday approved the French banker as the successor to the Dutchman Wim Duisenberg.
He will assume his new position on 1 November.
