Dutch stick to national veto on Justice and Home Affairs

The Netherlands will resist further European harmonisation and uniformity of criminal law announced the outgoing Dutch Justice minister, Piet Hein Donner, in NRC Handelsblad last Saturday.

Mr Donner stated that the Dutch regard this as a "crucial issue" in the process of preparation of a European Constitution. The Netherlands will stick to the principle of unanimity in EU decision making on Justice and Home Affairs and it will not accept plans to introduce more majority decision making...
