US grants more time for new passports

A year's extra time has been granted to all EU member states with visa waiver agreements with the US to start issuing passports with biometric measures such as fingerprints.

This year's deadline has been extended to 26 October 2005 after it became apparent that so many countries were not going to be able to have the new passports ready on time.
