Enlargement is set to cost the current EU member states in total 28 bn euro during the first three years, from 2004 - 2006. However, not all candidate countries will burden the EU budget. Three countries, Malta, Cyprus and Slovenia are the most likely to become net contributors to the EU budget after the first years of membership in the European Union.
In total the new member states are expected to contribute 15 bn euro to the EU budget...
