Commission delays moves against VW

The Commission has postponed the decision, expected yesterday, to take legal action against Volkswagen for two weeks, writes Handelsblatt.
The Brussels executive had been set to send a letter - the first step on a legal road that could lead to the European court of Justice - to the German government concerning the law that protects VW from takeovers.

But Commissioners themselves were so split on the issue reports FT Deutschland that Commission president Romano Prodi decided to postpone the action.
The French and German Commissioners were strongly against the move while internal market commissioner Frits Bolkestein feels that it breaches EU rules as it gives Lower Saxony, which owns 20 per cent of VW, the right to veto a takeover bid.
