Prodi wants Italian troops out of Iraq

Italy's newly installed prime minister, Romano Prodi, last night vowed to pull the country's troops out of Iraq as soon as possible – declaring that the invasion of Iraq was a "grave error".

Mr Prodi unveiled his government's programme in his first speech to the upper house of the Rome parliament on Thursday (18 May), after being sworn in the day before, telling Italian lawmakers that the Iraq war had opened up Pandora's box and risks causing a regional inferno.
