Poland blocks EEA agreement

In a surprise move, Poland on Thursday refused to give its endorsement to an EU-brokered free trade agreement.

On the last day of negotiations with the EFTA countries (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), which were expected to be just a formality for all concerned, Poland dug its heals in over fish quotas in Norway.

It said it could agree neither to the amount of fish quotas nor the way they would be managed.
