Greece supports a 2004 date for Turkey to start accession negotiations, said Greek Premier, Costas Simitis, a few hours before the start of the EU summit in Copenhagen. His statement goes against the Franco-German proposal, which supports a date for Turkey in 2005 if it fulfils the Copenhagen criteria in 2004. The Danish Presidency will present a compromise on Turkey this evening to the EU states.
