Belgium: European Parliament election results 2004

BELGIUM - 24 seats.

Results with all votes counted show a strong surge for the far-right Vlaams Blok, which ended up second. Former Belgian PM Jean-Luc Dehaene, who headed the Flemish christian democrats (CD & V), succesfully beat the Flemish Liberals (VLD) led by Belgium's current PM Guy Verhofstadt.

Turnout - 92 percent (voting is compulsory)
