Fears that unskilled workers from the new member states would pour into the old EU countries have proved unfounded, according to a report published on Monday (24 January).
The report, commissioned by Vedior, one of the World's largest recruitment companies and produced by the University of Manchester, concludes, "initial fears of a flood of cheap, unskilled labour to Western Europe upon accession of 10 new members to the EU in 2004 has not materialised".
