Protectionism debate heats up ahead of EU summit

A group of liberal-minded member states are set to sign a joint declaration blasting economic protectionism in Europe, ahead of tomorrow’s meeting of EU leaders, reports the Financial Times.

Drafted by Italian finance minister Giulio Tremonti, the letter is expected to be signed by Britain and the Netherlands, while Denmark, Ireland and Sweden have also been invited to sign up to it.
