Ireland blocks tainted GMO maize shipment

A US shipment of 2,546 tonnes of corn-gluten feed contaminated with the unauthorised GMO maize Bt10 arrived in Ireland on Tuesday (24 May).

The information was confirmed by the European Commission, who said Irish authorities would ensure the material will not enter the food chain.

US test results became available when the vessel was en route from America to Europe, making it possible for Ireland to intercept the cargo on arrival.
