The retiring head of the British Trade Union Congress, John Monks, would like his country to join the euro.
In an interview in the Financial Times today, Mr Monks said Britain is in a "great position to actually lead the reform of the stability and growth pact."
The TUC chief admitted with disappointment however, that "the signs are we won't go in".
