In Strasbourg on Wednesday, the European Parliament approved controversial legislation for protecting copyright in the Internet age, writes BBC News. The proposal would give copyright owners the right to use encryption to block the duplication of copyright-protected works and to limit the illegal downloading of audio and video files from the Internet. The proposal must pass through the EU Council of Ministers before it can become law.
