The EU Court of Justice ruled on Thursday, 8 May, in favour of a professional Slovak goalkeeper, playing for a German second-division handball team 'TSV Östringen eV Handball'.
The player, Maros Kolpak, should benefit from the same rights as players from the EU and EEA countries, the Court said.
This case arose from the refusal by the German handball association, Deutscher Handballbund, to allow the Slovak player to what he claimed was due access to championship matches.
