The historians Marius Oprea and Gheorghe Petrov are very atypical characters for Romania. In a country in which half the population still feels some nostalgia for the Communist regime and in which a Communist Party has recently been resurrected, the two historians have acquired a reputation for being "Securitate hunters", people specialising in digging up and unmasking the crimes of the former regime's secret police, but also of the crimes of Communism in general.
