Kurdish activist released

A Turkish court on Wednesday (9 June) announced that it will release Kurdish rights activist Layla Zana, the latest move by Turkey to put itself on the path to EU membership.

Earlier today, the Court of Cessation announced that Ms Zana and three of her compatriots, accused of being members of a Kurdish terrorist organisation, would be released pending a final verdict in their case.
