Agent recalled as Mid East policy suffers set back

THE EU’s chief intelligence officer in the Middle East has been recalled amid fears for his safety.

Alistair Crooke, an MI6 agent (British secret service) was the EU’s liaison during negotiations between the then Palestinian prime minister, Abu Mazen, and the militant groups of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Mr Crooke had worked during these negotiations to secure a Palestinian ceasefire - alongside the Egyptian security services, who led the operation.
