Pro-Putin party wins elections in Russia

Russian voters showed their loyalty to President Vladimir Putin in parliamentary elections on Sunday, strengthening his already powerful position in Russia.

According to preliminary results, the pro-Kremlin United Russia Party collected 36 percent of the votes, twice as many as any other party.

In a major reversal of fortunes however, the Communist Party received only 13 percent of the votes.
