Poland hints at compromise in VAT dispute

After a day of talks and pressure from various EU institutions, Poland hinted it is still open for a compromise over the EU deal on VAT holidays.

"Personally I am hopeful. The EU is made up of different procedures and situations in which compromises are necessary" the Polish finance minister Zyta Gilowska said on Tuesday (31 January).

She stressed Warsaw does not want to harm other countries but added "We simply raise the question of the need to take into account our reservations...
