The way has been paved for Jean-Claude Trichet to become the next European Central Bank President after a Paris court today, Wednesday 18 June, cleared his name from the Credit Lyonnais scandal.
Mr Trichet, a 60 year old well-respected banker, was one of nine men on trial for the Credit Lyonnais scandal, which culminated in a 31bn-euro bailout of the bank by the government.
